Because Regular Door Stoppers Are Too Mainstream...

I'm almost positive the title of this post makes zero sense to anyone, so here is a little back story for everyone...

My apartment has a door to the master bedroom and a door to the guest bedroom. Neither of the doors like to stay open on its own. One very hot day last summer, my cat, Roo Bear, got trapped inside the guest bedroom all day with no AC and no access to her food, water, or litter box...I might have been a tiny bit devastated upon coming home to realize this.

So I began my quest to find door stoppers to ensure this incident would never happen again....and what a quest it was. Home Goods, Pier 1, Target, Walmart, K-Mart, Home Depot, Bed Bath & Beyond...nothing. All I wanted was a little unique door stopper that would look nice and cute and sort of like a decoration. But luck was not on my side...until President's Day weekend when I went to Maine to visit my dad and step-mother.

They live near Bethel and there are a lot of antique stores in the area where I was assured I would be able to find what I really, truly wanted - an antique cast iron. Here is a picture on the right of what I wanted to give you an idea of the amazing-ness.

So I actually ended up finding one at a little hole in the wall store a little past Bethel on Route 2, heading towards Grafton, NH. For $18 I secured myself a little piece of history and a whole lot of happiness. The only issue is that there was only one and it's not painted, it's just cast iron. So pics coming soon of my finished product and hopefully I can get a second one for the other door...and officially retire Phil's books as door stoppers!

Other notable aspects of the weekend:

Meg and Will taught me how to play Apple Letters (also known as Banana Grams) which might be the only game in the history of games that I actually won AND more than once so as to prove it wasn't a fluke. Although there was one game in which I won using the word "pistle", which happens to NOT be a word.

We also went to a pub called Ebineizer's, which was rated the place to get the best beer in the country and...the WORLD. Yep, that's right. The best beers in the world can be found at an incredibly remote, tiny pub where Meg and I were referred to as Kourtney Kardashian.

I will assume they meant it in a malicious way, but I'll take any comparison to KK that I can get. Here's a picture of Kourtney II with a very interesting beer that was more similar to a champagne than actual beer.

And the highlight of the trip...Will getting to rock DOUBLE layers of plaid flannel. Not many men can pull off this incredibly amazing fashion statement, but Will is just one of those guys who knows the latest trends in Maine outerwear and pulled it off perfectly. I love how the under layer is a different color than the outer layer...so unique.

So it definitely appears I've spent the entire winter in remote locations in Maine and New Hampshire doing very un-Natasha-like things, but I have to say...for a winter that really wasn't a winter (average temp has been 50, no lie) I've been having a total blast. I've managed to spend time with great friends also get to spend time with members of my family I don't see that often like Felicia, my sister, and my dad, Wes. Here's to hoping the next couple of weeks of winter are as fun as the past few weeks and let the countdown to Mexico begin!

T-minus 2 weeks!!!
